Election boosts Green Party appeal

Commenting on the results in the Heywood & Middleton by election, Green Party candidate Abi Jackson said:

“These results show that the Green Party is increasingly being seen as a viable alternative to the “business as usual” parties.

Recently released figures from the Green party nationally [1] show

  • Membership up over 45% so far this year, passing 20,000.
  • Membership among the Young Greens has grown by 100% this year

Across the Borough of Rochdale our membership has increased by about 50% since May this year.

“As Green Party policies such as renationalising the railways, a Living Wage of £10/hour and stopping the privatisation of the NHS are becoming better known, we are becoming more popular.  We are the party with the most popular policies in this area according to independent survey website VoteforPolicies [2] and we are campaigning hard on those issues.”
